I read in the Register the other day that the County was going to have
their Park Rangers start handing out citations. According to the penal code
the park rangers are already peace officers who receive state mandated
police academy training and can hand out citations, or make arrests any time
they want. They have simply been restricted from doing so up until now.
But enforcing laws if a job for armed police, not un-armed police or
park rangers. I know that the County couldn't give a darn about keeping the
parks safe. They are probably just looking for a way to rake in some extra
money in fines. If the county wants to enforce the law in the parks then
either arm the rangers so they can do the job, or just pay to put a
Sheriff's Deputy in each park.
