UUASC
Unix Users Association of Southern California
March Meeting
---------------------------------------------
Running on Open Source Software
---------------------------------------------
Monday, March 8, 7-9 pm
I B M
600 Anton Bl, second floor, Costa Mesa
(NW corner of Anton and Avenue of the Arts)
The City of Garden Grove has been a pioneer with its use of "free"
software. At the UUASC March meeting, Robert Shingledecker, IS Manager
for the City of Garden Grove, will update the group on this unique
enviroment. Robert previously told us about the Garden Grove environment
back in October 1997. The City of Garden Grove currently uses Linux,
Samba, Apache, and Java over a campus environment to connect with their
legacy Pick-based database. Their system has been the subject of an
article in Linux Journal.
Robert will also be attending Linux Expo and will tell us about his
experiences there. Other members who attend are invited to contribute
to the discussion.
The UUASC is for all persons using Unix either personally or professionally,
or interested in learning more about Unix. We recognize all varieties of
Unix, including (without prejudice) SCO, Linux, SVr4, Solaris, AIX, and BSD.
This is a good place to meet others with similar interests and broaden your
skills and knowledge. Generally, meetings include a technical presentation
on a hardware or software topic of current interest to the Unix community
and a round-table discussion of current topics of interest to the group.
We are always looking for interesting presentations and your suggestions
are most welcome.
Please join us this month and bring along your friends or co-workers. Also,
please forward this announcement to others who may be interested and feel
free to post it on BBSs, both electronic and physical. If you receive more
than one announcement by email, please let us know so we can keep our lists
current. Thanks for listening.
