				     UUASC
Unix Users Association of Southern California
			       September Meeting

		-----------------------------------------------
                        Digital Subscriber Lines (xDSL)
		-----------------------------------------------

			 Monday, September 14, 7-9 pm
				 Corollary Inc
			      2802 Kelvin, Irvine
(one block north of Jamboree and Main)

Digital subscriber line (DSL) technology may be the next big thing in
telephone service. There are several varieties, asymmetric (ADSL),
symmetric (SDSL), ISDN (IDSL), high-speed (HDSL), and probably others.
Each promises data connections much faster than possible with modems
while still allowing the same line to be used for voice calls. Further,
most plans provide for the data connection to be always on, not requiring
dialing for each use. Obviously, the wide availability of such service
at a reasonable price could revolutionize access to the Internet. At the
UUASC September meeting, Mike Jones of Epoch Internet will explain these
technologies and whet our appetite for them.

The UUASC is for all persons using Unix either personally or professionally,
or interested in learning more about Unix. We recognize all varieties of
Unix, including (without prejudice) SCO, Linux, SVr4, Solaris, AIX, and OSF.
This is a good place to meet others with similar interests and broaden your
skills and knowledge. Generally, meetings include a technical presentation
on a hardware or software topic of current interest to the Unix community
and a round-table discussion of current topics of interest to the group.
We are always looking for interesting presentations and your suggestions
are most welcome.

Please join us this month and bring along your friends or co-workers. Also,
please forward this announcement to others who may be interested and feel
free to post it on BBSs, both electronic and physical. If you receive more
than one announcement by email, please let us know so we can keep our lists
current. Thanks for listening.

Check out the UUASC Web site at http://www.UUASC.org/. Many thanks to
Verio Southern California for sponsoring our site.
