UUASC
Unix Users Association of Southern California
July Meeting
-----------------------------------------------
Unix and NT integration
-----------------------------------------------
Monday, July 13, 7-9 pm
Corollary Inc
2802 Kelvin, Irvine
(one block north of Jamboree and Main)
While many of us loath just hearing about Microsoft's Windows NT, we are
frequently forced to deal with it anyway. There are practical reasons to
learn a bit about how NT fits in the Unix world, not least that most of our
employers use both. At the UUASC July meeting, Mike Clark of Auspex will
give us an overview of Unix and NT and how they compare and contrast. He
will discuss the trends driving NT into the traditional Unix market, the
concerns, problems, and issues surrounding integration, and what options
are available. He will deal with the issues and concerns of keeping NT and
Unix completely separate, client-side software, server-side emulation, and
native server-side NT.
The UUASC is for all persons using Unix either personally or professionally,
or interested in learning more about Unix. We recognize all varieties of
Unix, including (without prejudice) SCO, Linux, SVr4, Solaris, AIX, and OSF.
This is a good place to meet others with similar interests and broaden your
skills and knowledge. Generally, meetings include a technical presentation
on a hardware or software topic of current interest to the Unix community
and a round-table discussion of current topics of interest to the group.
We are always looking for interesting presentations and your suggestions
are most welcome.
Please join us this month and bring along your friends or co-workers. Also,
please forward this announcement to others who may be interested and feel
free to post it on BBSs, both electronic and physical. If you receive more
than one announcement by email, please let us know so we can keep our lists
current. Thanks for listening.
Check out the UUASC Web site at http://www.UUASC.org/. Many thanks to
Verio Southern California for sponsoring our site.
