				     UUASC
Unix Users Association of Southern California
			       September Meeting

		   -----------------------------------------
			Geographic Information Systems
		   -----------------------------------------

			  Monday, September 8, 7-9 pm
				 Corollary Inc
			      2802 Kelvin, Irvine
(one block north of Jamboree and Main)

Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, is a technology which connects
a highly accurate computer map of a region to a database. The City
of Huntington Beach has been developing a GIS since the early 1990s.
City infrastructure, zoning, flood plain, and aerial photography have
been recorded in the GIS to improve the record keeping and research
capabilities of the City. The system has improved customer service,
reduced staff research time, and provided easy to understand map products
representing real world conditions. At the UUASC September meeting, Tim
Dupuis, GIS Manager for the City of Huntington Beach, will outline the
efforts required to implement this system and will display examples of
what this powerful tool has accomplished for his City.

The UUASC is for all persons using Unix either personally or professionally,
or interested in learning more about Unix. We recognize all varieties of
Unix, including (without prejudice) SCO, Linux, SVr4, Solaris, AIX, and OSF.
This is a good place to meet others with similar interests and broaden your
skills and knowledge. Generally, meetings include a technical presentation
on a hardware or software topic of current interest to the Unix community
and a round-table discussion of current topics of interest to the group.
We are always looking for interesting presentations and your suggestions
are most welcome.

Please join us this month and bring along your friends or co-workers. Also,
please forward this announcement to others who may be interested and feel
free to post it on BBSs, both electronic and physical. If you receive more
than one announcement by email, please let us know so we can keep our lists
current. Thanks for listening.

Check out the UUASC Web site at http://www.uuasc.org. Many thanks to
Network Intensive for sponsoring our site.
