                         ---------------------------

                           Monday, March 10, 7-9 pm

(one block north of Jamboree and Main)

We proudly announce the re-activation of the UUASC Web site at
http://www.uuasc.org. Many thanks to Network Intensive for sponsoring
our site. Send your thanks to deanne@ni.net.

We've had a lot of programs lately on various aspects of Internet
technology. It's an exciting field and one which members seem to find
interesting. For March, we are pleased to offer another in this series.
Jon Bosanac of CERFnet in San Diego will speak about how an Internet
backbone provider works. Jon is a system administrator, and is
responsible, among many other things, for setting up ISPs using
CERFnet's backbone in Orange County. He will speak on the architecture
of the Internet itself, as well as how to go about setting up as an
ISP. This will be a particularly good session to attend for anyone
interested in possibly becoming an ISP. Jon will also discuss the
possible move to a transaction-based fee system for the Internet,
versus the flat rates we now see, and why that might happen.

The UUASC is for all persons using UNIX either personally or
professionally, or interested in learning more about UNIX. We recognize
all varieties of UNIX, including (without prejudice) SCO, Linux, SVr4,
Solaris, AIX, and BSD. This is a good place to meet others with similar
interests and broaden your skills and knowledge. Generally, meetings
include a technical presentation on a hardware or software topic of
current interest to the UNIX community and a round-table discussion
of current topics of interest to the group. We are always looking
for interesting presentations and your suggestions are most welcome.

Please join us this month and bring along your friends and coworkers.
There is no charge for attending a UUASC meeting. Also, please forward
this announcement to others who may be interested and feel free to
post it on BBSs, both electronic and physical. If you receive more
than one announcement by email, please let us know so we can keep
our lists current. Thanks for listening.
