We proudly announce the re-activation of the UUASC Web site at
http://www.uuasc.org. Many thanks to Network Intensive for sponsoring
our site. Send your thanks to deanne@ni.net.

It seems everyone is looking for a faster way to access the Internet.
Now Cox Cable in south Orange County is offering access through their
cable TV system at speeds much higher than ISDN. At the February UUASC
meeting, Rick Guerrero of Cox Communications in San Juan Capistrano
will speak on this new program. Guerrero was one of the engineers on
the implementation project and is now responsible for the rollout on
the technical side. He will be talking about the system, what it can and
can't do, costing and area implementation dates, hardware and software
requirements/conflicts, and what we can expect in the near future.

Future attraction: On March 10th, John Bosanac of CERFnet in San Diego
will speak about how an Internet backbone provider works. He has spent
a considerable amount of time in Orange County setting up ISPs, so this
will be a great session to attend for anyone interested in possibly
becoming an ISP.

The UUASC is for all persons using UNIX either personally or
professionally, or interested in learning more about UNIX. We recognize
all varieties of UNIX, including (without prejudice) SCO, Linux, SVr4,
Solaris, AIX, and BSD. This is a good place to meet others with similar
interests and broaden your skills and knowledge. Generally, meetings
include a technical presentation on a hardware or software topic of
current interest to the UNIX community and a round-table discussion
of current topics of interest to the group. We are always looking
for interesting presentations and your suggestions are most welcome.

Please join us this month and bring along your friends and coworkers.
There is no charge for attending a UUASC meeting. Also, please forward
this announcement to others who may be interested and feel free to
post it on BBSs, both electronic and physical. If you receive more
than one announcement by email, please let us know so we can keep
our lists current. Thanks for listening.
