UUASC
UNIX Users Association of Southern California
August Meeting
------------------------------------------
Object-Oriented Programming with Smalltalk
------------------------------------------
Monday, August 14, 7-9 pm
Graphix Zone
38 Corporate Park #100, Irvine
(southeast of Jamboree and Barranca)
"Object-oriented" is all the rage these days for languages and even operating
systems. Smalltalk, originally developed at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center,
was one of the first programming languages to enthusiastically embody this
concept. Smalltalk is a fully object-oriented language which has as its chief
strengths maintainability and reusability.
At the UUASC August meeting, Mike Frank will present an informal introduction
to object-orientation and where Smalltalk stands in the industry, Mike will
also demonstrate Smalltalk on the large video projection screen. And, of
course, Mike will tell us how he feels Smalltalk compares to other languages.
For future planning, we expect the September 11th meeting topic will be the
Java programming language and the HotJava Web browser from Sun.
The UUASC is for all persons using UNIX either personally or professionally,
or interested in learning more about UNIX. We recognize all varieties of
UNIX, including (without prejudice) SCO, Linux, SVr4, Solaris, AIX, and OSF.
This is a good place to meet others with similar interests and broaden your
skills and knowledge. Generally, meetings include a technical presentation
on a hardware or software topic of current interest to the UNIX community
and a round-table discussion of current topics of interest to the group.
Please join us this month and bring along your friends or co-workers. Also,
please forward this announcement to others who may be interested and feel
free to post it on BBSs, both electronic and physical. If you receive more
than one announcement by email, please let us know so we can keep our lists
current. Thanks for listening.
