Do Californians still have a choice in local phone and electric companies? I
haven't seen any commercials recently.

You can forget electricity, Calif. has completely screwed that up - but
as for phone service check www.sprintion.com which is a pretty good deal
with the included Internet access. AT&T is also available via cable-tv
but when I had cable it was so lousy I don't think I'd ever want to put
my phone service there... Sprint does it on the same phone wires you
have now and they're available at least in some of Pac Bell's area too.

In parts of Orange County, you can get phone service through
Cox Communications, which is a cable TV company. I don't
know anyone who has tried it.

I have it (in Irvine). I have my cable TV, cable modem, and two phone lines all
through the single cable! It's worked perfectly for almost a year
now.
