What will Columbus' new status as a United Nations-sanctioned Info-Port do for Ohio's information infrastructure? Will ISDN deployment be accelerated? Will "fiber to every doorstep" happen here first? Will the inter-InfoPort information traffic be carried on the existing international "data highways", with compatible "off-ramps" so that small businesses can quickly and easily get connected? That was one of the goals I remember reading in the article. Watch closely to see whether IP or OSI technology is selected for the backbone and the access methods. If the former, they can quickly reach their goal of ubiquitous access, using low-cost, proven technology. If the latter, it will founder as an underutilized playground for Big Business. Who is involved in the data networking effort? OARnet? CICnet? ANS? CIX? NSFnet? FARRnet? NREN?
