My understanding of what is involved with the United Nations center is much more about the storage, translation and processing of international data about countries and their industries and a needs, than it is about distribution. I think that the center grows out of work done by early international trade advocates, and people who recognize that in order for there to be an international economy, that data about companies, services and products from around the globe need to be accessable electronically. The City of Columbus did participate in trying to gain this international information center, so did the international and EDI lawyers who have been pioneering in this area of the law. This is a very exciting addition to Columbus, maybe we should begin claiming the title "infoport". I wonder what is on the list of things to gather and distribute? Will maps be included? How about art? Music? Television? Will these be among the things catalogued and made available for trade? How about the needs for follow-up and personal communication which usually follows document delivery? Will the center be a repository for what is now standard forms of data on issues of trade and commerce, or will it also build a collection of international information which will help to contextualize these data and allow for more meaningful decisions from a distance? Will there be any interactivity or will it be all time-shifted? What are people thinking about this? Thom McCain
