Sorry for the frustration.  I don't know who you called, I'm generally
good at forwarding calls about uucp to Tom, and I think Tom's good
about returning calls...:-)  If you sent mail to uucp, its quite
possible the message was overlooked - there's often a lot of trash
that shows up in that newsgroup (mail to uucp here is shunted to a
local newsgroup) and sometimes stuff gets missed.  Sorry.

We are still understaffed, overworked, etc.  We don't and won't feed
news to anyone via uucp (too much of a headache and we don't have the
resources for it).  We aren't taking new mail connections, and will
probably, eventually ask our current mail feeds to find other feeds.
We're not real interested in maintaining uucp except for anonymous
uucp, unless we start providing uucp feeds for osu students, in which
case we'd ask the non-osu folks to find other feeds anyway.  

Another motivation for finding alternate feeds is that osu-cis is
saqqara, a aging Pyramid that isn't covered by any sort of service
contract.  If it dies, I won't rush to fix it.  We'd just move uucp
stuff onto one of our Suns, but probably not quickly.
