Based on the current statistics on who is considered rich, I fell into that category. I looked around my house, found no extra money laying around and questioned the theory. The real issue is the assumption that those of us in the rich category just have the money handed to us. I work 60 to 80 hours a week. I went to school and got an education. I have had years where I spent over 200 nights in a hotel, away from my home and family, to earn a living. I do not believe that the "national sales tax" is regresive to the point where it is unfair to anyone, which is the point, FAIRNESS to all. I do not use a greater share of the public services that my tax money pays for than the poor person, in fact the contrary. I don't show up at the emergency room at Grady every time I have a cold for free medical care. When I go to the doctor, I have to pay the bill myself. I do not use any more of the road when I drive than the poor. I've never seen a police car in my neighborhood, so I know I am not using excessive police services. Where is the incentive to work harder so you will have more, if you have to give that extra you just earned to the government. Is it a crime to work hard and make more money than other people? Why should I get to keep only $.60 of every dollar I make while someone else gets to keep $.85 of every dollar they make. I have more because I worked hard and I EARNED more. What were these poor people doing while I was working two jobs and going to school at night? -- David B.
