I believe 60 minutes or 20/20 or somebody found that cops have an overwhelming tendency to lie on the stand. Even when they're not running scams that would make themselves be criminals. It's because they're so intense to get people locked up...they believe everybody is guilty and they're willing to become felons themselves to make sure the nasty people get convicted. Kinda perverse logic ain't it? Become a Felon to make sure the 'bad guys' get locked up? Probably don't have to worry about your fellow cops testifying either. It's okay when the FBI, Justice Department, and local cops do it, just don't let civilians do it.... E. M. (wordsnotspam@well.com) wrote: : So, Fairfield County (Ohio) Sheriff Gary DeMastry is facing ~323 _felony_ : counts, including theft in office and money laundering. Given that he is : innocent until proven guilty, some questions: : 1) Why is this man still running the police department? : 2) What do you suppose his bail will be when he's arraigned on Thursday? : Betcha he's released on either his own recognizance or very low bail. : 3) Some of the money Mr. DeMastry and his confederates are alleged to have : stolen came from the Sheriff's "Furtherance of Justice" (sic) fund. This money : is, among other things, used to conduct "drug buys" from dealers. Sheriff : DeMastry has been a big booster of D.A.R.E., and ha always been front and center : at the press conferences when drug busts are announced. But investigators : allege that what Sheriff DeMastry was actually doing was dispensing money to his : undercover officers supposedly to make drug buys, and then having those officers : pass the money back to him under the table. Aside from being breathtakingly : hypocritical, this practice raises one glaring question the media have not : asked: : Were innocent people framed by Sheriff DeMastry in the course of running his : little scam? Hard to argue that they would not have to have been. Hard for the : cops to record that money as having gone for drug buys without at least a few : apprehended perps to show for their trouble. Hard to believe cops didn't : "testi-lie" in drug trials to cover their Sheriff's ass. : The Ohio Attorney General needs to appoint a special prosecutor to look into : every drug conviction in Fairfield County during this clown's term of office. :
