You can drink alcohol without becoming drunk, you can't smoke pot without becoming high -or at least, that is the intention of every pot smoker. Many people like the taste of alcoholic beverages but would never drink themselves drunk. >For me, if it makes them happy when they are suffering some sort of pain, >well why the hell not. Because they will surely spread the pain to someone else when they drive a car, operate machinery, etc. while high. It's no "well why the hell not" matter. >This is a complete emotional reaction, just like other people posting their >opinions here. My point is, before we get all up in arms about whether >we should outlaw pot for medical purposes, I think we should study the >situation better. What is your point? No matter how much we study or think about it (as some of us don't need to do to know the difference between right and wrong), all of our answers will ALWAYS be emotionally biased. We are not computers. >Personally, I think stupid people use alcohol on purpose to act stupid >and silly. It just gives them an excuse. I already act goofy, >I don't need chemicals. Sure you get people claiming they like the taste, >which is bullshit. American beer is piss water compared to some real >european beer. I like Pepsi, Coke, Sprite, or whatever a lot better >than wine or beer. I think people learn to like alcohol, which is dumb. >They learn to like it because they want to get drunk. Bull. While it may be an acquired taste for some, it's not for others. Also, just because *you* don't like the taste, does that mean *nobody* likes the taste? Just because *you* like the way a Saab looks, does that mean *I* like the way it looks? Of course not, I hate Saabs. By the way, alcohol comes in many forms. Personally, with the right meal and the right setting, I love a glass of a matching wine. It has nothing to do with becoming enebriated (sp?). >If I had my way, I would get rid of alcohol and pot. I think both >are stupid. Well, we all have our opinions about where to draw the line on *potentially* dangerous substances, and you're certainly entitled to yours. But there is clearly a large difference between alcohol and pot. >Oh by the way, for the people who don't like Clinton, your >Conservative Republican representatives don't like pot because they cannot >make profit off of it. If they could, they would leagalize it and make >it into an industry like beer. Your "ethical" friends would turn in a hearbeat >for profit. The conservatives will defend the tobacco and beer industry >to the death, but they claim Clinton is some sort of liberal? What the >hell is this? I question the validity of people who defend tobacco and >beer but claim pot should be outlawed. It's quite simple actually. While tobacco may pose threats as far as lung cancer is concerned, it doesn't impose an immediate threat of impairing someone's hearing, sight, or judgement. Or if it does in select cases, it's not nearly to the extent of pot. And I've already defended alcohol above. Does that mean I think this stuff should be in the hands of every irresponsible youth out there? Of course not. Steve
