Greetings to all Ohio is in the dead of winter -- and what better time for a Winter Soup Hike. The Buckeye Trail Association and the Cuyahoga Valley Spaziergangers volkssport club team up to bring you the annual Winter Soup Hike at the Findey State Park near Wellington in Lorain County in north central Ohio. This is one of a series of winter hikes put on through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. They are really great hikes -- and the soup served on the trail is the best I ever tasted. This walk is a little different -- You register between 9:30 and 10 a.m. and the walk is a guided walk in the woods that starts at 10 am. Both 5K and 10K walks are available. The trail is a 2.5 or 3, depending on what kind of weather we have. I've been told there is one big hill you have to go up, but there is a rope there to help you, and some human assistance. The walk starts at the camp commissary at Findley State Park, close to Routes 18 and 58. Credit here is only $1.75, and there is a patch with a Canadian goose in flight. Credit and award day of the walk is $5.50. Charlie Briggs at 330-836-4173 can answer your questions. See you on the trail Feb. 7 Sandi Latimer Olentangy Owls
