One of the recent reports about Postal workers claims that the incidents of violence at the work place is no greater for them than for the general public. However, it often takes two years to settle grievances.

This is often the case with State of Ohio employees, though some employees get their grievances settled more quickly. Often the employees are told by their union that they should not file because the grievance is without merit, only to find later that they can file a grievance on any basis, and the grounds that they cited are not without merit.

Management at the Ohio EPA seems to have the opinion that they can follow their contract or not, at their discretion, and do not need to address grievances unless they wish to. Is this true of other State Agencies where the OCSEA is the representative? What can the employee do if the Union will not represent them. Some employees that are non-exempt from the Collective Bargaining Agreement can find no other alternative than to hire a private attorney.

Your comments are welcome.

Postal workers don't work for the State.

I know, I was making a comparison. I work for the state. Most people consider them Federal employees, but I am not sure that is the case, since the PO has been privatized.
