Can anyone recommend any PC component suppliers that are hassle-free,
cheap and have a good range of kit for allowing me to build my own Linux
boxes? Easy on-line ordering and them replying helpfully to e-mail would
be great.

(So, them clearly marking things that need Windows-only drivers and the
 like would be good!)

Maybe http://www.tcu-inc.com/. If nothing else there's integrity and
a Linux focus there. And it's local.
