OARnet Announces 56/64Kbps Leased Line Service Nationally November 1, 1993 (Columbus, OH) OARnet, through an agreement with LCI International, is pleased to announce the availability of 56/64Kbps connections to the Internet throughout the U.S. Clients connect with a 56Kbps local loop to the nearest LCI Frame Plus Point-to-Presence (POP) to access the OARnet frame relay backbone. LCI has 372 POPs located in major cities, with concentrations in the upper Midwest, western Pennsylvania and New York, Florida, and the Washington, D.C. area. OARnet, an Internet service provider since 1988, is located in Columbus Ohio. OARnet has been marketing commercial connections to the Internet in Ohio and surrounding states since 1991. LCI International Inc. is a publicly-held, worldwide, facilities-based telecommunications company that provides to its business and residential customers a full array of voice, data and video transmission services through its fiber optic network. "We plan to continue to concentrate on Ohio", said Alison Brown, the Director of OARnet, "but because of the really cost-effective frame relay services from LCI, we can offer our corporate and academic clients in Ohio the ability to connect other parts of their company and/or their university directly to OARnet, giving them a single service provider for their whole organization. Of course, we expect that this service will also bring us new clients, particularly where LCI has a strong presence", she added. OARnet has been connecting clients outside Ohio for several months using LCI private line services, although no formal announcement of national availability has been made. Universities in Ohio with connections to OARnet and campuses outside the state have expressed interest in using OARnet to connect all branch campuses to the Internet, effectively using the Internet to provide an extended campus network for their entire institution. With the new frame relay service, this has become an even more attractive option. A number of OARnet corporate clients have a similar need to connect several parts of their business to a single service provider. In addition, OARnet has already done some partnering with other Internet service providers to connect clients outside Ohio using LCI facilities. Several service levels are available at different committed service rates on the OARnet frame relay backbone. Prices start at $10,500 per year . For more information about this service please call (614)292-8100 or send electronic mail to info@oar.net.
