Greetings In the spring of 1997 Pat Moran of the Columbus (Ohio) suburb of Clintonville was about to giveup. He'd had two surgeries for cancer, a heart attack and a lung infection. Illness had forced him to quit working. He says friends wondered why he was still alive. What little recreation he did was limited to roller skating. A friend suggested he try waling. He could hardly put one foot in front of the other. But he tried it with his friend. Each day he'd do a little more. He surprised his friend when he said he as going to walk 10 kilometers, although his friend didn't think he was ready. But Pat was determined. Today, seven months or so after walking, Pat is the first one to put on walking shoes when the word "walk" is mentioned. His car generally knows how to get to the nearest volkswalk, and he usually has a few friends with him. It't not unusual for Pat to walk 10 kilometers in the morning and 10 kilometers in the afternoon. Pat generally walks 10 kilometers Saturday and 10 kilometers Sunday. As a side to walking, Pat has met a lot of nice people and seen parts of Ohio he didn't know existed, and is seeing Ohio from a different point of view -- eye level and at his pace. Pat Moran is listed in the December issue of TAW with his first achievement level -- 10 events. When you come to Ohio to walk, ask for Pat Moran. He'll kick up his heels and "walk that Yellow Brick Road" with you.
