Title: Immigration and Slenderness: Recent Results on L Systems
Time: Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1992, at 2:00pm
Place: MC 320
Abstract:
Lindenmayer systems or L systems are language-theoretic models
originally introduced to describe the development of simple
filamentous organisms. L systems have turned out to be very
suitable for computer graphics, apart from stimulating very much
research in theoretical computer science.
The lecture gives a brief introduction to L systems in general,
as well as an overview of some recent theoretical work I have done
in collaboration with J\"{u}rgen Dassow, Juha Honkala and
Gheorghe Paun. The work concerns L systems of the simplest kind,
D0L systems. Most of the lecture does not presuppose any previous
knowledge about the area.
