I have (temporary custody of) an Apple II+ connected to a Centronics (779?) printer. The two used to talk to each other, but when I try to redirect output, the machine now hangs. I suspect the parallel interface card. Does anybody else have a machine/printer combination that could use this part? If so, would you be willing to drop it into your machine and tell me whether it runs? Alternatively, I would like suggestions for a diagnosis or fix. I replaced four out of five chips on the card (the trivial stuff) but the most likely culprit would be the PROM, which seems to be difficult to obtain. The probable fix will be to replace the card, but I don't want to do this until I know that's where the problem is. Please help - my mother wants her computer... -- John Hogg Computer Systems Research Institute, UofT ...utzoo!utcsri!hogg Standard disclaimer: the above may or may not contain sarcasm, satire, irony or facetiousness. John's going to die of embarrassment, just after killing me for publishing
the "fix", which he found just before I had a chance to whip my voltmeter
out...
One of the four tractor feed clamps (the one with the "out of paper"
microswitch) was open.
Just a reminder to check the obvious... Too bad his printer didn't have
an indicator lamp...
