Problems connecting USR Dual v32bis to Worldblazer

Is anyone out there successfully logging their v32bis
system into a Worldblazer feed site?

On the advice of many I have increased the S7, S9 & S10 registers,
but uucico still fails to get a CONNECT.

From looking at my logs, both sites successfully call me. I can
succeed logging in to my main feed the majority of the time but
have yet to successfuly log in to my mail feed.

If anyone out there has a successful init string for this, I'd
appreciate it.

Hmmmm...if you are successful with one, but not the other, maybe the
one you cannot connect to has a setting problem and not you? Just
a thought

We do. I think the key is to set S92=1 and follow the suggestion in
the manual with regard to setting S7=60. Also, if a site wants a PEP
connect they should set S50=255 before dialing.

I understand that USR has released a formware upgrade for their small-box
Courier high speed modems. I do not know what improvements are included.

I don't seem to have any trouble with WorldBlazers with V.32bis/V.42bis.

This information applies to Telebit modems,
and basically suggests that the Telebit offers
PEP tones last in the answer sequence. This
requires that calling PEP modems be configured
to wait for the PEP tones or else they'd end
up connecting at the highest non-PEP speed
	(2400 bps for non-V.32 versions).

This is not a trivial thing to arrange when one
has a large number of existing PEP connections...

Well, I think we can gather from all this that normal v.32bis/v.42bis
modems connect no problem to Worldblazers. And, as seen by the fact
that Ian's v.32bis *can* successfully connect to my Worldblazer at
High Speed, I think maybe we can safely conclude that this is something
different between mine and the *other* parties modem settings? And
maybe this problem should not have reached out to the net and instead
been talked about to the parties involved?

	Just my opinion...we welcome yours!

Marc

You'd think so. I recently changed my T2500 to offer PEP tones last
due to problems in making V.32 connections after the T2500's firmware
was upgraded (details in comp.dcom.modems). I sent out a message to
all of my neighbours saying "anyone have problems setting s50=255
before calling imax?"

It turns out that most neighbours were already doing this as a
matter of course for all PEP connections - it was in their standard
Dialers (or equivalent) entry. One wasn't doing it, but didn't think
it would be a problem.

So it wasn't as bad as you might expect. Maybe it's worth polling your
neighbours and seeing who would have problems if you offered PEP tones
last.
