There may be even better bargains available if you shop around. Always select "perfect" binding unless you really need the book to lie flat. Almost all softcover books sold these days have perfect binding. Unless you are a big name author, go with soft cover. If you are a self-publisher and can get your book placed in a bookstore, you will normally get 50% of the retail price. If you go through a regular publisher you can only expect to get 5%. If you are serious about distributing your book, get 1000 copies printed for the first printing. If you sell them you can get more printed and the next batch should normally be 3000. Your price per copy the second time will be cheaper because the book has already been prepared for printing. 5 1/2" x 8 1/2 is the standard size these days. Standard weight for the cover is .01. Lighter then that and the cover will be flimsy. Heavier is seldom needed but you might want to splurge - especially if it is full color. Standard weight for pages is 60lb white. Some people prefer off-white. Your choice. The more pages you write the lower the cost per page to print. And yes, I am working on a book and will be a self-publisher. I'll be looking for the best deal I can find once I get further along.
