Tell me about it!  I grew up on a turkey farm near Molalla, but the 
majority of my family's income came from my father's "other job" as a 
production manager for an egg laying operation in Woodburn.  The turkeys 
only paid for the mortgage. (if we were lucky)  In 1992, the Norbest 
plant in Salem went belly-up. With the nearest turkey processing plant in 
California, the turkey industry in Oregon was pretty much killed.   
Luckily my father does pretty well for himself working in Woodburn, but I 
know that he would prefer to do some real farming.

I enjoy doing manual labor too, but since my trade of choice is now 
biochemistry/molecular biology, I don't do it very much.  If you ever 
hear of a place in need of a biochemist/farm hand let me know. :)
