A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Slave Market Although one may not want to delve too deeply into the question for fear of discovering the truth for themselves, slavery has never left us. All who live in a system called society and have been made to be dependent upon an outside agency for their very survival are slaves. They have sold their very souls for their "daily bread." Some are house slaves who work in air-conditioned offices, while others are field slaves who toil under unspeakable conditions with little or no protections afforded them. Race or culture have nothing to do with it. All who serve this thought-based system of laws, rules, regulations, written by the few who rule the many cannot deny their status. This common bond of slavery remains to be the only real existing brotherhood not bound by class distinction, or by the color of your skin, or how your last name is spelled, or where you were born geographically. When work output is recompensed at a rate that never quite meets one's needs, by the setting of costs which outstrip wages, one finds the old "Company Store" has never really left us. It has just acquired a new and more sophisticated image. Why is it that more people don't see it for themselves? Mainly because their pride will not allow them to admit their status openly (or even silently, to themselves). Next time you are in the supermarket do this: Check out the prices in the basic food area. Forget the processed foods. Go to the fruits and vegetables, check the prices from a year ago, two years ago. If your pride doesn't interfere by attempting to rationalize your impotence, you will see how easily you can be manipulated. The gradual imposition of increased prices has taken its toll upon your pocketbook in such small incremental steps as to have gone unnoticed. There is is no mistake in all this. It is by design. Soon there will be the culling out of the poor in our society through such seemingly innocuous measures. They are going to be wiped out, without so much as a raise of the eyebrow of survivors, when even the most basic of foods will have costs well beyond their ability to pay. Look at some of the elitist discount stores that have recently come on the scene. Membership requires that one work for or be retired from the government or some other company on their approved list. Where will the poor do their shopping? With what will they pay for their purchases--food stamps, script, or a plastic id card required in a cashless society? Do you think this is some futuristic nonsense? This is happening right now. We have lost the ability to feed ourselves; to hunt, to fish, to grow our own uncontaminated food without having to pay for licensing and meet the most inane conditions just for the privilege of doing so. Who has the right to say these basic fundamental rights to life are privileges? Why, the Master, of course! Raymond Karczewski http://www.virtualplex.com/vplex/ark/
