The next OSU Network Security meeting will be this next Wednesday,
June 26 from 4-6 PM in Baker Systems Engineering room 120 on
the Ohio State main campus.

Do Americans have a right to use strong encryption, or should access
to it be restricted since criminals can use it to hide their tracks on
the Internet? Is anonymous access to the net a good thing or a bad
thing, or both, and where do you draw the line? Electronic cash is
emerging - and people are talking about anonymous cash transactions
and anonymous businesses. Are these good or bad, or what?

This month we will meet the Cypherpunks. The cypherpunks mailing list
is a place where folks talk about the emergence of encryption-related
technology and its relationship to (and affect on) society. I'm
planning on focusing on issues surrounding anonymity, privacy and
encryption. I'll give a brief intro to some of the technical and
social issues for each of these areas, and then I'm hoping that we can
have a free-wheeling group discussion.

I'm planning on giving a demonstration of anonymous remailer software
and possibly electronic cash, presuming that there's time and
interest.

The Network Security Group meetings are usually held on the fourth
Wednesday of each month from 4-6 PM on the Ohio State University main
campus in Columbus (usually in Baker Systems 120). The goal of our
meetings is to share information about computer security tools,
practices and problems. Anyone and everyone are invited to attend.

We also have mailing lists for people who are interested in discussing
network security issues, or who just want announcements about meetings
and security bulletins. Send mail to
netwog-security-request@lists.net.ohio-state.edu for more information.
