Howdy.  The next meeting of the OSU Security Group is fast approaching
- next Wednesday, July 26, 4-6 PM, Baker Systems 120.

"Wildman" Jim Ebright will be demonstrating the security web pages
he's putting together.

Doug Karl will also talk about various changes that he's making to the
KarlBridge software to make them more effective security tools.

I'll try to twist someone's arm into talking about security tools like
the ssh package, but we'll see.

Next month (drum roll) we'll hear from Brent Chapman, who is coming to
town to present his Firewalls tutorial.  Due to his schedule, we're
rescheduling the Security meeting for August - it will be on Wednesday
August 30th (NOT the 23rd as it should be, since we usually meet the
4th Wednesday of each month), and our meeting will be from 9-11 AM,
location to be announced shortly.  He'll be talking about his new
book, whose title I can never remember.  Its about Firewalls, and it
is Extremely Good (I've read a draft copy).  I'm hoping that we'll be
broadcasting this on the mbone, but we all know how well that worked
when Dan Farmer came to talk :-)

BTW, his Firewalls tutorial is a fabulous source of information about
network security (or lack thereof) and what you can do about it.  His
public tutorial will be on August 29th - contact GreatCircle

more information.  OSU will be hosting a private tutorial for OSU
staff Monday, August 28th - I'll be posting more information about
that to osu.network and various campus mailing lists next week.

I'm hoping to have someone from CERT come out in the fall to talk to
us, but I haven't made arrangements for that yet.  If anyone has any
ideas for other interesting speakers, demos, presentations and so on,
please let me know.
