This month, Steve will dissect several recent security incidents from
Ohio State University, detailing the impact, aftermath, and good and
bad aspects of the investigation and response. The discussion will
touch on issues concerning law enforcement, international
investigations, software piracy, and resource allocation. I will also
present a summary gleaned from our records of incidents from the last
few years, which might prove interesting.

The discussion will not involve flaky laptop demos or access to
protected web pages, so it might actually run smoothly this time :-)

The meeting will be in Baker Systems 120 from 4-6 P.M.

The Network Security Group meetings are usually held on the fourth
Wednesday of each month from 4-6 PM on the Ohio State University main
campus in Columbus (usually in Baker Systems 120). The goal of our
meetings is to share information about computer security tools,
practices and problems. Anyone and everyone are invited to attend.

We also have mailing lists for people who are interested in discussing
network security issues, or who just want announcements about meetings
and security bulletins. Send mail to
netwog-security-request@lists.net.ohio-state.edu for more information.

For those of you coming from off campus, note that this Wednesday is
the first day of classes, so be warned. I would think that by 3:30 or
so there would be public parking available in the northwest ramp, but
you might be better off parking at the Arps ramp instead. Also note
that there has been more than the usual bit of construction around the
Woody Hayes/Tuttle park intersection, getting to the ramp itself might
be interesting. Looks like you can approach it from either Woody
Hayes (heading East) or Tuttle (either direction) now, but I don't
know what will change by Wednesday.
