Pardon me, if you feel this is spamming - or just impractical; but, I
think it is time that the Ohio State student community, the residents
of campus and the University District put the InterNet to our
advantage in dealing with crime on and around campus.  So, here goes.

On the morning of April 17, around 12:30AM I noticed a man walking
through the parking lot of the apartments at the corner of East and
Duncan, just south of Doodridge; he was lifting door handles looking
for an easy score.  A resident of the apartments said that the
following description matches a man that attempted to break into his
apartment, through a back window, on the afternoon of the 14 or 15th.
Over the course of the past six months there have been occassions of
thefts from vehicles in that parking lot.

Description:  	White male, earlier to mid 20's.  
		Sandy beige / dirty blone hair
		5'10" - approximate
		170 lbs. - apporximate
		last seen wearing a blue/black sweatsuit outfit.

 
I would like to thank the officers of the Arcadia Avenue station, the
dispatchers of the radio room, and the helicopter division for their
prompt response to my call.  Often students complain that the Columbus
Division of Police is not interested in protecting the students in the
University District; tonight, the police proved them wrong.  From the
time I sighted the man, to the phone call to 645-4545, to the sounds
and lights of the police helicopter and the visible presence of
cruisers, no more than 3 minutes had elapsed.  While unsuccessful in
this attempt and understaffed, I have continued confidence that the
Division of Police will be remain responsive to the needs of the
citizens of the University District.
