Elat Lerner <cx172@FreeNet.Carleton.CA> spewed forth to ott.config on 20 Feb 2002 11:26:55 GMT: > Apparently this individual, Louise Marchand, has managed to > antagonize a large number of people participating in > 'ott.general' discussions. 'ott.general' is a newsgroup carried > by most ISP's operating in Ottawa and some outside of Ottawa. The problem as I see it has been that Louise rolled into ott.general with no intention of any kind at having a discussion on anything. Her entire intent was to disrupt the group by posting trash that could easily be discredited, and much of it was questioned which resulted in nothing flames and man-hating spouts. She is a self-admitted sexist and man hater. She has on many occasions even relied to posts that had nothing to do with her and called the poster names simply because he was a man, and asked about why she would then go off and flame the hell out of you. Posting to newsgroups is not a constitutional right, it's not a right granted by the UN Human Rights folks, it's a privilege. Established netiqutte does suggest that you shouldn't act like a complete idiot for your entire time in Usenet, but alas this is how Louise has acted. I do have to say she is not alone. I myself am guilty of poking the bear as well, but it was generally in response to a hostile response. The point is, if you want to act like an idiot there is no place for you in more normal groups like ott.general, there are plenty of alt.* groups out there that more then welcome this sort of flaming behavour, in ott.general it's not at all welcome. As I said she isn't alone, which also suggests there are plenty of people that continue to poke and push looking for a rise, these people too should really consider moving on. If on the other hand Louise (and the others) are willing to have civilized discussions where people are expected to ask such things as where did you get that info, provide URLs, ISBNs for books, etc, etc. To date this has been a problem. Just my 2p worth (Sorry we don't have any cents in the UK :) )
