IT certifications are useful to show to an employer that you fully understand a software. As long as the software is there... Once you throw the software away, your certification goes away too. This is sick. The IT industry realized that there are a lot of money to be made with certifications, It started with Novell and Microsoft, then it spread all around the software and computer hardware companies. Sadly, the employers jumped into the bandwagon and prefer to hire certified candidates WITH a computer/college degree instead of a college/university degree alone. But keep in mind that an MCSE alone doesn't give you a job. If you want to work for Microsoft, they ask an University degree with MCSE. Not just the MCSE alone. So if M$ don't believe in their own diplomas, what's the use of them?
