There is a rumor that the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB), which is made up of what used to be the OBE (Ottawa) and the CBE (Carleton), will be taking the easy way out when deciding what to do about Junior Kindergarten. In the current transition year what used to be OBE schools provide JK, the CBE schools do not. The rumor is that the OCDSB wants to continue providing JK in the schools that now offer it (Ottawa), but not in the other schools. I am wondering if this is really possible. Politically, the trustees can probably get away with anything. Even during the teachers๏ฟฝ strike only two ratepayers showed up to the school board meeting. But is there something in the law to prevent a public school board from providing a service that is not universal?
