                    MEETING NOTICE

The Ottawa Chapter of the Society of Motion Picture and Television
Engineers January meeting is at CJOH-TV, 1500 Merivale Road on January
12 at 7:30 pm sharp.  Guests are welcome.

This month's meeting is a live videoconference from Toronto.  There
will be a phone connection from Ottawa for questions.  Speakers as
follows:

1.        Fred Smart, Telesat Canada, will discuss the issues on
Canadian standards on video compression and review the MPEG standards
process.

2.        Chris LaPine of CHSN (Canadian Home Shopping Network) in
Toronto will give the user's perspective on compression technology and
the status of the joint CHSN, YTV and Vision TV use of digital video
compression.

3.        Gord Langdon, Rogers Engineering, Toronto, will review the
cable labs process to establish a digital video compression standard
for the cable industry and Rogers' view on implementation.

4.        Michele Durocher, CBC Montreal, will discuss digital video
compression from a broadcasting network's perspective.
