                              About the Talk
                              --------------

The GALAXY Application Environment is a complete multiplatform
application environment designed specifically for constructing
large-scale commercial applications. The GALAXY Application Programming
Interface (API) supports both a kernel-based architecture and in the
near future a fully distributed client-server model. GALAXY comes with
powerful runtime components that provide network-independent services
such as global hypertext help and inter-application communication.

GALAXY is a one-for-one replacement for the MacIntosh Toolbox,
Windows SDK, Motif Toolkit, and OPEN LOOK Toolkits. GALAXY adds
significant value above and beyond these environments so that
application developers can channel all of their effort into building
products. They do not have to devote additional resources to enhancing
or fixing enabling technologies. Nor are they forced to devote amounts
of effort and investment on portability. GALAXY applications can be run
across multiple platforms with no code changes.
