Ottawa ACM SigAda Meeting
Wednesday March 10, 1993. 7:00 pm
PRIOR Data Sciences
240 Michael Cowpland Drive, Kanata.

Guest Speaker: Dave Williamson, Jade Simulations, Ottawa.

Brief Abstract

Development of Ada systems in an environment in which Ada is not the
primary language is technically challenging and difficult. In a Unix-based
Open Systems environment, system services and commercial software packages
typically supply only C language interfaces. This presentation will compare
the C and Ada programming models, and discuss approaches to utilizing the X
window system, Motif, and a commercial relational database system.

Brief Biography

Dave Williamson is Project Manager for the development of the Canadian
Airspace Management Simulator (CAMSIM) for Transport Canada. He is the
chair of Ottawa SigAda, and has been active in the group since its creation
in 1989. He has been technical lead on several Ada projects involving Unix,
X, Motif, and databases. He was a reviewer and balloter for the IEEE
P1003.5 binding of Ada to POSIX.
