[[[MODERATOR'S NOTE: while the discussion of pilot (and other airline employee unions) vs management is a fit and proper one for this newsgroup, let's not get the whole issue wound up in pro or anti union rhetoric, please! if you're going to do that, send your followups to another group that's more appropriate. thanks --HTR]]] STRIKING AIR CANADA REGIONAL PILOTS RALLY WHERE: Parliament Hill, Ottawa WHEN: Wednesday, February 5th, 1997 at 10:00am WHY: The 900 pilots of the four wholly owned and controlled Air Canada subsidiaries (Air Alliance, Air BC, Air Ontario, Air BC and Air Nova) have been on legal strike since January 10th. Why? The employer reneged on their own proposal on December 4th 1996 during conciliation meetings in Toronto. This has cause the impasse that has subsequently forced us to strike in order to get the company back to the table. Instead of seaking a resolution or returning back to the bargaining table (with proposal), Air Canada and its four subsidiaries have hired strike breakers - some of which are from the United States. Air Canada and its subsidiaries are refusing to comment to the public or the media as to why they reneged on their proposal, and as to why they are provoking the striking pilots by offering promotions and encouraging the public to travel on the struck routes. Air Canada and the subsidiaries are unscrupulously offering triple-airmiles if traveling with the struck airline. This only serves to exacerbate the situation. Enough is enough. The CLC, the BC Fed of Labour, SCEP, FTQ, CEQ, CSN and the Union of Defense Employees are amongst the large labour groups that are boycotting Air Canada until this labour dipute is resolved. Last week the Premier of BC, Mr. Glen Clark also wrote the president-CEO of Air Canada asking him to put and end to strike and to seek a fair and reasonnable solution. The striking pilots and the bilingual spokespeople on site will be please to speak to the public and further explain this dispute, the largest ever legal pilot strike in the history of canadian aviation. Thank you for your attention and for reading this posting. Capt. Vincent Charron (charv@total.net) M.E.C. Chairman ALPA-CANADA Council 218 Quebec-City, QC. (Air Alliance)
