The Dauphin DTR-1 is a 486-25Mhz Pen Based Sub notebook computer, Which can be used with or without it's keyboard because it comes with a pen mouse as well as handwritting recognition software. The company is still in business, and parts are still available if need be. Their current model is the DTR-2 which is similar in concept but a 220MMX Pentium with a colour VGA screen/palette (for only $4440 US I might add <g>) My DTR-1 comes in a 3X6X10 leather case which holds its monochrome VGA screen/writing pad and a similar sized keyboard. The pen is cordless and is used as the mouse, it also comes with trainable software for handwritting input if you so desire.(I have used is successfully with both Excel and WordPerfect). The original software is MS PenDos 6.0 (same as MS-DOS but with Pen Drivers) and MS Win 3.1 with Pen Drivers, Handwritting recognition S/W, and Pen-Calc lite. It comes with two batteries, external 1.44 floppy drive, and a "smart" powersupply for international travel. It has 6MB of memmory, a built in 10baseT LAN card and a built in modem (2400 data /9600 fax) as well as the usual serial and printer, floppy drive, standard PS/2 keyboard jack and SVGA monitor ports. The hard-drive is small 40MB, but I have installed Stacker 4.0 (included) which easily bumped it up to 80MB. I have read articles claiming that Stacker has successfully boosted it to over 100MB. It comes with its own I have successfully installed WFW 3.11 (included), and TCP/IP for WFW (included). All original manuals and disks included. I have also read several articles by people who have upgraded this machine with an external ZIP drive, and have heard that the CPU can be upgraded for those technically inclined. There is also a company in Toronto who specializes in upgrading this platform and is offering a package deal on upgrading the CPU and the hard-drive to 1 or more GBytes for a reasonable price. I can be contacted at 613-825-5324 (evenings or weekend) or rjbeeth@synapse.net I only monitor ott.forsale.computing - so I recommend email if you do not wish to call. Rick
