In article <4ppnp3$nqs@strauss.udel.edu>, idsardi@strauss.udel.edu says... >The shipping costs would then be C$23. Expensive, but not completely >out of line. So more than half of that "shipping" cost goes to the >various Canadian governments. Further, UPS is one of the few shippers >who can deliver directly to your door on international shipments of >this sort, otherwise you have to go down to the post office and pay >the taxes and tariffs yourself. That was exactly what I wanted them to do. I really don't care if it's delivered to my door or if I have to go pick it up at the post office. However, they told me that it was "impossible" to send it to me any other way. When I asked about sending it through the US postal service, they said that anything sent through the US postal service would never make it through the border (sounds like a load of bull to me -- I've never had any problems shipping heavier packages from Ottawa to Miami using Canada Post. Only needed a couple of bucks postage). Anyway, if your hypothesis about the $57 including provincial and federal taxes (Spectrum told me that it was only the shipping charge, and that taxes had been charged directly to my credit card. But maybe they made a mistake) is correct, then my statement about Spectrum ripping me off was probably wrong (but they still could have informed me better on what was going on and where all the charges were comming from, instead of telling me "Oh, $57 is normal. You should have known it would be that much"). Whatever, this discussion has probably gone on a bit too long. Ciao! -Alex
