These things are starting to get out of hand. Time for the government to step in, if the industry doesn't clean it up itself and "self-regulate" unsolicited e-mail. A good example to follow is telemarketing. There are strict rules about the time of day that calls can be made; a prohibition against blocking call display (many mass e-mailers fake their return address); and you can demand to be put on a "do not call" list, failure to adhere to which can result in the supension or cancellation of phone service upon a complaint to the telephone company.
