Win9x does keep track of what has previously been installed, mainly for the situation where hardware may or may not be always seen at boot time, particulary with the stuff that can be powered off at boot time or not be plugged in like with external stuff. > My problem is thus: Your problem is this: > To use my scanner, I have to disable my network card. Particularly removing something that uses an IRQ and seeing if it would allocate the resources to both of those in THAT situation so you can use them both at the same time. > So the best I can do is disable either one or > the other when I need to use one or the other. Bet its possible to end up with a better solution than that. > I was thinking that if values were stored in a registry, I could > just make a .reg file and that could change values easily. Its more complicated than that because Win9x attempts to detect what is present at boot time, mainly to cover the situation where some stuff may not be powered up at boot time etc. And you dont need to use .reg files to achieve what you want to do, there is a hardware profiles system in the device manager which does what you want. > Can anyone think of a better solution? Fix the fundamental problem so you can get the scanner and network card working together. That has to be possible. If you dont want to do that, use the hardware profiles.
