I think if you go back and read last Friday's newspaper you will find a very good
article about a study of the fairness of different state's method of taxing their
citizens. The article points out that states which have no income tax and instead
generate revenue only through sales tax showed up with the least fair distribution of
the tax burden. In these states the very poor paid a much higher percent of their
earnings on taxes than the average middle class earners (and Washington state does
not even charge sales tax on food).

Please post the results from your studies that show a flat 15% tax to be fair or
at least point us to those studies so we can make an informed decision about the
fairness of a flat 15% tax.

Incidently I just came back from a tour of Washington DC. The most interesting thing
I saw while there was a quote from Thomas Jefferson on the wall of the Jefferson
memorial. The quote was a very strong arguement against a flat 15% national sales
tax. It seems Jefferson though accessments of taxes should be base on the
individual's ability to afford those taxes.
