Everyone is trying to make this idea too complicated, which in turn will
bring it down. The only way to make this work is allow no deductions, no
exemptions, etc. This would help to eliminate the old practice of
being declared a non-profit institution just to get out of paying taxes.

Think about how big the operating expense of the IRS is, and how much
money could be saved by eliminating the Department. We are talking about
a substantial savings in printing costs alone!! How many pieces of paper
are generated just to print the forms and the instructions for the forms.
I could live very nicely on the money every year. Not only would we
save salaries and benefits of thousands of employees, but how about
office rent, cars, guns, miscellaneous office supplies, just to name a
few.

It's a fair system. The poorer people (which I am one, family of four,
living on less than $30,000 per year)buy less expensive food and
"necessities". While I eat hamburger and beans, my more fortunate
friends eat lobster, steaks, fine wine, etc. They also tend to eat at
restaurants more often and pay a premium for that food. My supper might
cost a couple of bucks, theirs cost them a couple hundred bucks. (I've
eaten with them several times, their treat).

Bill Gates can't spend as much as he makes??? He could, he chooses not
to, which is something we should all strive for. You don't suppose that
not spending everything he makes has anything to do with him being able
to amass a fortune that makes him one of the richest men in the world?

Look, the flat tax still requires an IRS, and therefore all the problems
and expenses. It's too easy as a self-employed contractor to hide money.
How are you going to determine what my salary is so you can tax it? But
it is very easy to determine how much I spend. The state does a great
job of collecting sales tax on everything I buy. That's the real beauty
of sales tax. The collection process has already been tried and proven!
With the exception of very few states, (two I think), the agencies and
the processes are already in place.

Actually, I think that once the IRS is abolished, the underground economy
is taxed, and the loopholes plugged by eliminating exemptions and
deductions, we'll find that so much money is found and generated, that we
probably don't need anywhere near 15%.
