Hi Folks, I hate to go begging, but I thought someone might help us out. Here is our plight: I am a student currently attending P.C.C. and taking what passes for computer science classes there. (actually, they're not that bad) P.C.C. Rock Creek campus has an elderly Tektronix 4300 workstation that I and some other students would like to set up as a dial-in unix workstation. The problem is that although the machine runs, it is missing the following necessary parts to do this: Bus Adapter pt# 4300F3A Dual RS232 DMS ports pt# 4300F3G As some of you no doubt know, Tektronix is no longer officially supporting this machine. Therefore, the parts would normally not be available, however a call to Tek reveals that they would be able to sell us these for $270.00 for the Bus Adapter & $450.00 for the RS232 ports. Over the summer, the instructor that teaches the CS courses had tried to put in a requisition for the parts, but PCC won't buy them, they are too expensive. Indeed, for the amount Tek wants for these, we would be better off putting the money into an ISA machine, anyway. Also, the machine is lacking a tape drive, and only has an 80Meg drive, so would need more parts & money to bring up as a multiuser workstation. If anyone has a box with these in it sitting in some nook of their garage, we would love to give them a useful and productive home. I know that it does not make economic sense to put money into this machine, but I was hoping that if someone had one of these that they were scrapping, that they might send them our way. P.C.C. Rock Creek, unfortunately, has no other Unix machines, although the other campuses do. If anyone could help us out, you can send me e-mail at: tedm@agora.rain.com Or you could call the instructor at: PCC Rock Creek 244-6111 x3466 or x7235 His name is: Si Farahmand Thanks, Ted Mittelstaedt tedm@agora.rain.com
