If you or your children have read the Harry Potter books, please
consider donating your copies to a library. I talked with a
12-year old boy today who is desperate to read the first and
third books. (Apparently, his library has a huge waiting list for
the books and they distribute them on some sort of lottery basis.
Because of that, he read the second book first and is anxious to
read the other two.) He also mentioned that they have a one-week
limit on the loan of the books and that it's hard to get through
the books during a normal school week. This is true of several
libraries in the area (including school libraries) -- a lot of
them have lists for the Potter books that are 50-60 names long.

I talked with the head librarian at the Oakland branch of the
Carnegie Library about how to donate these books. She was
thrilled to hear that someone might have even one set to donate
-- she told me about how these books are in such high demand (and
by kids who aren't particularly avid readers, which is great
because this kind of jump starts them into reading). She also
said that if you make a donation, you'll receive a note from the
library that can serve as a tax deduction. To do it, just stop by
any branch of the Carnegie Library and ask to speak to a
librarian. They'll take care of the rest.

So please consider sending a copy of one or all of the Potter
books to a library so that other kids can enjoy these stories.
It's not often that kids get so caught up in a series like this
one -- after he read the books, my son made me add this series to
-my- reading list!
