[I'm forwarding this to ALLIES, OUT and the local MOTSS groups, as my
home is 50% queer owned, has gay-positive neighbors (e.g. Planet Queer
is published about 8 homes away, and my direct neighbors that I've
spoken with are gay supportive.).
The home also has 100% gay-supportive management (e.g. my mother. Did I
mention she had a gay son? ;). It's also a damned good home, too. Feel
free to pass this note along for anyone looking for queer-positive
housing that's also damned beautiful and well maintained.]
---------
I'm leaving Pittsburgh at the end of May for Atlanta, and am
interested in selling or renting our beautiful house on Beeler Street
before leaving on May 31st.
5357 Beeler Street was purchased by myself last summer, and we have
completely stripped and rebuilt it into one of the nicest homes on the
street.
It's the closest house that CMU off-campus has listed to CMU (about
1/5th of a mile; 5 minute walk.) It's an especially perfect location
for faculty or anyone affiliated with CMU. The amount of renovating
that we did last year was so profound that 5357 Beeler Street is in
every respect a new house, other than (most of ;) the walls and doors.
Major renovations include:
* New kitchen w/GE top of the line appliances (20 CC side by side
fridge, dishwasher, XL44 sealed burner oven, etc), done in wood.
* Powder room added in on the first floor
* Upstairs bathroom stripped and replaced
* All electrical wiring and gas piping replaced. Almost all water
pipes replaced (no frozen pipes over the winter anymore), and water
heater replaced.
* All old windows replaced with new double-paned windows
* Porch roof replaced
* Basement dug out and renovated into a beautiful efficiency or
entertainment room. It was made in lovely stained wood, has a thick
gray carpet, and a bathroom and wet bar. (The basement has
efficient gas-fueled baseboard heating, and is a separate zone.)
* Laundry room added in w/GE washer & dryer
* The first & 2nd floors of the house were recarpeted with a grey
carpet.
The house also has:
* 3 bedrooms (in addition to the finished basement)
* 2.5 bathrooms
* 2-car detached garage
* Backyard
* Bright, open floor plan
* Lots of closet space
* Combined living room/dining room (cosmetic fireplace in living room)
* Outstandingly high quality construction. (70 years old)
Although we'd prefer selling the house, we're also willing to rent
it on a long-term basis to a family/group that could provide outstanding
referrals from previous landlords. (College Housing recommendations
don't count.) We'd want about $148,000 from a buyer, or $1,400 per
month from a tenant.
NOTE: Squirrel Hill zoning laws prohibit more than 3 unrelated
adults in our house; my personal opinions on these discriminatory zoning
laws aside, individuals interested in a home for 4-5 unrelated people
will not find this house to be of any use.
If you're interested in buying it or renting it, give me a call at
683-6203.
