Phil Koopman just gave me permission to broaden the circulation of this
heartfelt petition that he placed before a radio show he listens to. It
does a very good job of explaining what our Washington DC event is all
about:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings-

My name is Phil Koopman and I am a regular listener to your show. I
have a recommendation for a show in conjunction w/an event that I am
involved with and a sponsor of as co-owner of City Bikes in Adams
Morgan. I have tuned in to your discussions on biking, especially
w/Ellen Jones, Executive Director of the Washington Area Bicyclists
Association, with whom we work with throughout the year in support of
their advocacy efforts. I think that this is a story that will interest
both a local and national audience with its affirmation of the best of
cycling's potential for each of us individually and as a society.

This August 20th there will be a ride/rally/reception/party in support
of the National Bike Greenway and offering thanks to Congress for the
inclusion of funds for alternative forms of transportation in the TEA-21
transportation bill. Already riding from multiple points across the
country are many riders who will be joined by local cyclists at staging
areas around the metropolitan area on Sun. morning. They will then ride
down to the Capitol and, with the permission of local law enforcement
agencies, parade in a loop from Capitol Hill to Freedom Plaza and back
from 10AM-2PM. Later in the afternoon, my hometown of Mt. Rainier, MD
(just 4 miles from downtown) is hosting a street festival for the NBG
riders. Marked routes will guide the riders to the party where there
will be speakers, live music, a BMX airshow, vendor booths, and a
general carnival atmosphere for all to enjoy. Mt. Rainier has also
secured the use of the local recreation center as a camping site for the
cross country riders for the weekend. You can find many details at
their website: www.BikeRoute.com. Please follow the links describing
the cross-country ride, the rally downtown, and the reception in Mt.
Rainier.

The organizer and source of inspiration for this effort is:

He is an experienced cyclist and articulate advocate with a very
compelling story to share. If you are interested in pursuing this idea
further, I am sure he would welcome your contact, or I would be happy to
ask him to contact you. If you are unable to follow up, perhaps one of
the other shows at the station would be interested as well.

Thanks for your time in considering this proposal, and for your always
insightful treatment of the many complex issues you explore. I would
look forward to helping in any way possible to make this show a reality.

In Peace-

Phil Koopman
