No one has yet mentioned a venerable favorite of mine, Pyrenees, at 2nd and 
Bainbridge.  Moderately priced, with very good house wines, and great 
Mediterranean food (paella, bouillabaise).  

Also, there's an excellent, though expensive French restaurant at 4th and 
Bainbridge, Alouette, which is consistently ranked very high in a city with 
lots of good French food.
