people don't care about each other anymore

Do you think the news will tell you all this that I have written below?
Please send this post to as many people as you can
Please we are losing the fight for doing the right things.

How is it that people can do the wrong things in this country so often and
get away with it?
We don't do anything about violent crime
My city had pollution ratings of particulate pollution at 100 today. Good
quality of air has left.literally , and its getting worse, the percentage of
days we get pollution like this keep increasing and nothing is done. . For
20 days we had no good days of air and 100 out of 119 days the air was not
good most every hour of the day,. If it reached good for ten minutes they
sure as hell will tell you the whole day was good.. The list of damage is
ignored. Simply ignored by politicians, I weeze automatically at moderate..
let alone at 100 particulate rates. Trust me the gov knows what is
happening. What hell am I in? Stock losses. health loss, no jobs. but hell
oil prices can sabotage our economy and they can get weapons too to continue
to put unreasonable demands on those that have less . We pay countries who
hate just because they tell us they are fighting terrorists. How in the
helll did we default to all this?
We brought millions here and many people can't get jobs
Stocks! All my stocks go opposite once my money shows and the more money
shows the more insiders can either sell or invest against your investment or
tell hedge funds. If your money is in stock, all of a sudden brokerages can
find information ( don't matter what) and have explanations at hand why your
stock is going down usually once it shows up or up if your short enough.
They talk about changing factors why your stock loses.. Three times I had
stocks that went down almost all the way to zero. Look at the stock board
for stkl and see what happened yet no SEC investigation? The stock
mysterious kept going down and insiders sold and after the stock lost close
to 50 percent they come out with bad news and insiders gained millions..
After you lose and believe me they can bring it down to however low it
takes, someone buys and takes it back up without you. The stocks that do
great are always the ones that were under your radar.
Big business has a licenese to steal with unreasonble charges and interest
rates.

Your naivete is UNBELIEVABLE. "Getting away" with whatever it is
to get power, or maintain power, or subjugate people to create
power has been a recurring theme throughout a lot of human history.
I'm talking about *thousands* of years.

So your concerns are essentially ridiculous because human nature
hasn't changed and isn't going to change.

The only reason you are talking about the stock market is because
it's in the major news right now.

Did you care about it before that?

how can I possibly talk about it so much if I had not lost
what 3 times, as soon as I put some decent money the things took a dive like
the same thing that would happen if you put allot of money on a horse. I
know allot of things Karen from experience, Won't get me a job but I can
help someone from losing. Are all stocks trash? No way. but like I said ,
you use to be able to buy at mid point and expect growth good and bad times.
Now you have to buy at the very bottom and now they go down as far as it
needs to go to get you to leave . Day traders are just as suicidal as anyone
who puts allot of money on a race.
But much more problematic is our air quality which might and I say might
gingerly reach good for the first time in what 20 days? The air has been
absolutely horrific and I am very serious. . There was this piece on yahoo
about this guy who could read minds so he claims ( he is son of a rabbi) and
he claims its not psyhic . I am making the same claim about moderate
particulate pollution and its producing illness and poor health registering
in me like for a real reason: to alert others. Of course I honestly believe
the pollution factor is much more ominious then stocks, cause obviously one
doesn't have to invest.

no where Karen have I seen negative changes as much as in the NE. Many
people from midwest talk as if none of this is happening. I get email from
peopole saying people treat others with respect, there is little crime and
no pollution and farming has come back big time. There are two entirely
different worlds going on.

Ever heard of diversification??? You do not put too much of your money in stocks
alone. Ever.

Not about investing. I haven't lost any money, overall, yet.
I didn't during the dotcom crash. I didn't during the '87 crash.

Well, that we can agree on.

The problem with day trading is it's no longer the purview of financial
perfessionals. Any idiot can day trade now. The internet has made that
possible.

Well, gee, I was almost hoping you could actually get through
a post(one that has some interest for me) without bringing
this up.

Funny thing is, I feel fine...exactly as I did 20
days ago.

You know if you actually have enough money to invest
why haven't figured out how to make enough to get
away from all the horrific air.

Just read some history. Don't you have a lot of free
time???

It might help you understand how recent "negative changes" that
you are so worried about are nothing compared to living 100-150
years ago before there was even dependable electrical service
for instance. You or I can't even imagine living in that
kind of environment. I mean we freak out when we lose
power in storms. Imagine not having electric power as a way-of-life!
Where if you were lucky all you did have was gas for lighting.

> Many

Given that I have friends in Nebraska I can tell you that
their frame of reference is indeed different than our
own but that doesn't mean that they are free from
modern problems like drug addiction. It's just that they
don't smoke crack, they use crystal meth and alcohol.
And the "decent world" you think exists out there is
illusionary.

> I get email from
>peopole saying people treat others with respect,

I've been there! More than once. That "politeness" is just
PHONEY. They back bite. They're nasty and they cover
it all by parking their butts in church on Sunday
thinking that will fix every 10 Commandment they
break during the week.

> there is little crime

That's partially because there are less people. Steve, there are
less people in the entire state of Nebraska than there
are in the city of Phila.

> and
>no pollution

You haven't been there, have you? There's plenty of
pollution. It's created by massive agriculture i.e
fertilizers, etc. Pig farms with pools of stinking

Sure. If you're Con-Agra!

You are being very romantic about an area that shouldn't
be romantic about.

I would rather compare to every city in the US today, only because thats a
better real comparison one can hope to have.

You might think differently someday .There are variable changing conditions
in the US cities . To some extent we have people who base reality only on
the cities where they exist and make conclusions. . You might have a panel
of people on PBS talk about people not trusting anyone anymore and crime in
another city they talk about how to get solar energy into more homes and
celebrations, not how many people were killed.
I was watching a news feed from Britain and they were talking about one
murder as if this was unusual and it top story. There was nothing unusual
about it although very sad all the time it happens. But this one murder had
no special politician or famous person connected, they reported it most
likely because it happens so unoften. Can you imagine ABC starting their
program about a murder in Missippi without a more urgent correlation besides
just a murder?
So you see reality is very contrasting and some people live very much better
lives , pollution is just one variable and an important one that already
affected everyone more then others who didn't . You might not be sick and
you might not die but I can guarantee heredity has less impact then you
think compared to pollution and those people who ate the same healthy
things generally speaking in clean air always perform better and are
healthier then people who don't. How much so is the unbelivable factor.

Yes, it's true. Just like it's true that in the not too distant past,
every year, people were terrified of polio epidemics. I'm old
enough that I can remember the last big polio outbreak we had
in the 1950s before the Salk vaccine was out. Do you ever think
about polio now? No. I rarely think about it either which is
remarkable since I remember quite vividly the fear it used
to create.

Imagine a time when we had no antibiotics where a scratch could
mean death. Although we've over-used them, with the result being
that some bacteria have evolved to be resistant to them, I still
DO NOT want to live in the world my grand-parents grew up in where
they didn't exist.

> so its a matter of accepting your cup half full or half empty

All I'm suggesting is that you try to compare today with what
the past was really like without trying to romanticize
that past.

You mentioned that it used to snow a lot in Phila. The inference
being that you were worried about that as a sure sign
of global warming.

 Sure it
has snowed a lot in some years. But I read something very interesting
today concerning local snow amounts in January: there have
been 20 Januarys, since 1885, where we've had an ONE inch or less
of snow. So you see not having much snow isn't that unusual.
And I remember the winter in the early 70s where we
had NO snow at all. So you've manufactured fear and worry
about the lack of local snow when there's no reason to
actually worry about it.

>I would rather compare to every city in the US today,

Like you've spent sufficient time in *every* large
city in the US today to make a sensible comparison
between any of them. You have to *live* in them
to say anything sensible and real about any of them and not
trust what some "news" reporter or somesuch
says.

I doubt it.

Steve, I've been to these places out in Plains and Mid-west:
Scottsbluff, Gering, Alliance, Lincoln, and Omaha, Nebraska.
Torrington and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Denver, CO. Oklahoma
City, OK. Lawrence, KS. and Sioux City, IA.

Where have you been out there?

>There are variable changing conditions

True. But this is just generalizing.

>To some extent we have people who base reality only on

Of course! You're doing it all the time by accusing
Phila. of being completely dysfunctional by ignoring that it's
only dysfunctional for people who are actually dysfunctional
*themselves*. They'd be fucked up no matter where they
were.

>I was watching a news feed from Britain and they were talking about one

It's hard for private citizens to get guns in Britain. That's
the difference. But the number of people getting guns there is
increasing.

Sure they are. What separates you and me, obviously, is that I'm
doing exactly the latter right here.

I don't believe that at all. We already know that DNA
differs in individuals. Why can I breathe essentially the same
air as you and never suffer any respiratory illnesses?
I'm almost 60 years old. If the air was going to sicken
me it would have by now.

Karen you work for hospitals, and must know that everything in body is
connected. The thought it generated over and over again in text books. It
might not affect you the way it affects me, but we do have ways to
objectively judge danger, how can you ignore all the negative ratings to our
health from f rated to sperlings list of cities low rating, to number one
for asthma and respiratory deaths from a universtiy study by the way in
Philadelphi ( I think it was Temple) and of course anyone can read the links
to the damages our major news ignores. I am telling you with absolute
certainty that the people who breathed air without it being good the most or
who had the most pollution ( either one) suffer way more for lots of lost
health reasons then people who had good air and both populations ate the
same healthy things. We just heard about kids right outside Phily with
whopping cough? Why dont' we compare the particulate pollution ratings for
that are the past ten days? I will tell you it was not good, and compare
that to the people who got good air? No whooping cough there? Sure you might
find whooping cough in clean air but gernally speaking over and over again
the people who get sick the most are in areas they are not being told they
are getting sick the most and those area happen to be the most polluted.
This is the most unbelievable things that are allowed to sicken and harm
people and we are not told enmass or stop it from happening to the people
who get it the most. and you think you would know its more then my reaction
and your reaction

No, I don't. I told you this before. I work for Penn's
School of Medicine. The med school is connected to the Penn Health system

Sure, I do. That's why I'm saying one's DNA plays a huge role in the
outcome of ones' life.

The discussion of just what role environment plays in someone's
life is still being debated. But, it seems, that Nature is winning
over Nuture and what you are born with determines a lot
of how you eventually turn out.

It's obvious it doesn't; I'm not sick.

Look, if they do not apply to *my life* why do I need to belabor what
the ratings say?

There comes a time in one's life(because of my age
I'm getting close to that time) when public crusades are
counter-productive. If I have a good quality of life now(I do)
what I need to focus on is keeping that going as long as possible.

Since I don't have the physical issues you do, the world looks
"happier" to me.

You know if a lot of Phildelphians would just stop smoking a lot
of those respiratory deaths would disappear.

I didn't hear about that. But there are a lot of kids today
who haven't had whooping cough vaccine which is inexcusable imo.

Whooping cough(pertussis) is *contagious* and is
probably caused by a virus.

> Sure you might

So now you're deciding that whooping cough is part
of the "particulate" count???
