(pollution) I talk to a professor who says this is one of the biggest risk
factors in his opinon on the quality of life one person can have. I
definitely agree and thats why I say people are being poisoned.. Think its
not true do a study on the net, and even go to airnow website. When the say
quality of life equals quality of air its damned true. Philadelphia. more
crime, much more crime. more slanted press paid millions to talk happy talk
while ignoring health care professionals leaving , over 50 percent of
murders don't even have an arrest let alone convictions. 50 percent of our
kids don't graduate high school! , close to 30 percent or more in this city
don't have health care coverage, American Cancer society gives the city F,
almost every day we dont' have good quality of air in the summer, thats
almost every day. compared to cities on the up and coming like Portland and
Seattle. People are leaving Pa and philly and Ed Rendell will come here
telling you its getting better BS. Remember PA number 2 for asthma and
probably high up there for cancer and heart disease . I talk to a professor
who says this is one of the biggest risk
factors in his opinon on the quality of life one person can have is not
caring one level of pollution . I
definitely agree and thats why I say people are being poisoned.

The difference between Seattle( I know more about Seattle)
and Phila. is that most of their residents are college graduates
while that is far from the case here. And you think
(from another post of yours)that we need to maintain
our working class. Well... no we don't because that's
part of this city's problem. We have too many, uneducated,
unskilled, semi-illiterate people who can't think. I'm not
talking about electricians, or plumbers or carpenters...
people who valuable skills but all the rest who don't.

What we need are more college graduates, a conduit to
keep more of the ones who do graduate from our
local colleges here and the kinds of jobs that will
keep them here.

'Course the other thing that makes us different than
Seattle and Portland is I bet they are basically
white cities in that the black/minorities populations
are small while Phila. is almost half black. That is
those cities are whiter hence richer as a result.

Karen, if they don't have clean air to breathe, even if they knew the
difference, this will bog them down, I see hundreds of kids and adults
everyday and I know or have an idea what percent are into alcohol or drugs,
and I personally think its hard to think about good alternatives when the
damn air is not coduscive to good health. Arning level air is directly
related to quality of life, so if they have F rated quality of life brought
on to them why you think they want to overcome it ? I can't overcome it and
I know better. It maynot register in their lungs, but it may register in
their attitudes and other illnesses. Seattle and Colorado and other areas of
the Northwest are growing because of clean air and professional element.
Personally I would love to see it poor I would be there now. Show me an area
with relatively good clean air and with low housing prices and I will be
there. Portland is as close as it gets and for whatever reason it also has
big methadone or crack problem. Frontline did a story on it.

Karen I see people who are old coughing more on bad air days so I assume
this is hurting everyone. Why would a professional come here if they knew
that the air is one of the most important factors in quality of life and
please don't take my word or the professor I talk to .. its on the govts on
website!

I think when you have lots of broken families, pollution is the killer that
quiets any positive chance. Its really really sad you can't be objective on
this .. dare I ask you to call some local pharmacies and see how many
prescriptions for advair they are giving.(this I also know) and then compare
it to those that don't get this pollution.

I keep wondering how old do I have to become before
I start having problems... problems that haven't happened
yet but will, according to you.

I wonder how many of those people you see coughing smoked
or allowed themselves to be exposed to second-hand smoke.

Maybe it's because there are other things in the NE that some professionals
care about that trump what you see as vital. There's always
risk in life. In my opinion one of the dumbest things one
can do is ride a motorcycle especially without a helmet but
people do it and they enjoy it.

One more time you are assuming that everyone is affected the same
way you are and they should make a decision about their lives
based on what you say. Plenty of people just don't want to
listen.

Are you being objective? No, you're not. I'm basing my
view on my life which contrasts deeply with yours. Your
asking me to negate my own life and health stance
just so you can get some kind of support from me.

I know there's air pollution, Steve. But if I'm
well you are asking me to devote time I don't have
to an issue that I would have to juggle with all the others
I have to spend precious time on.
